London Travels – Day 1

As I write this, I’m sitting in the international concourse of Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina, hooked up to the free WiFi throughout the terminal. My flight from here to Gatwick doesn’t leave until 7:40pm, so I’ve managed to grab a cup of Starbucks and sit down and relax for a couple of hours.
I left the apartment around 10am and took the E to Penn Station. Grabbed a NJ Transit ticket and managed to get onto the 1104 train to Newark International Airport. By the time I took the AirTrain and got to the actual Terminal, it was about noon. Since I was early, I decided to check my luggage and even though I had already e-ticketed, the agent decided that since the takeoff reliability from Newark was fluky and that I was catching a flight to London, she would bump me up from a 3:00 flight to a 1:31. Given that there wasn’t overly much time, I decided to head over to the gate and grab a quick bite before getting on the plane.
As predicted, the plane was delayed about a half hour for no real reason. On the plane from Newark, this man and his wife were sitting next to me, and after reading his bio, I wish that I had taken the opportunity to pass him my business card/resume. Regrettably, I hadn’t. The flight touched down in Charlotte around 3:30 and I pretty much crossed the entire airport to get where I am currently.
I think around 6:30, I’ll probably get something to eat for a quick dinner since I don’t know when exactly they’re going to be feeding us on the plane. In addition, it’s possible that I could fall asleep on the plane and miss a meal altogether. My flight arrives in London at 8:30am local time (-5hrs = 3:30am EDT) so from there I hit the ground running for a full day in London. Hopefully I’ll have time to post, otherwise I’ll be writing stuff down in my Moleskine City notebook.
Next stop, London calling!
