The Best of
1980-1990
by Spencer
Ross
Quite
frankly, I'm not sure how anyone could afford to not have this CD
in their CD collection. Even if you're not the biggest fan of U2,
and particularly their latest stuff, you have to admit that the
songs on The Best of 1980-1990, are those U2 songs that
you could listen to over and over again. This CD completely
remastered the early songs from the band that's still cranking
the hits out today with their latest CD, All That You Can't
Leave Behind. There really isn't much that you could say
about the songs on this disc, which range from "Pride(In the
Name of Love)" (my favorite), to "Sunday Bloody
Sunday," to "I Will Follow." These are all the U2
songs you know and love, and all the songs that made U2 one of
the most successful bands of our time, with a 20+ year career.
Unless you like every U2 song and are a diehard fan, this album
has every song that you would definitely like to hear by the
band. It's definitely worth 4 1/2 stars, even if it does include
that stupid new song, "Sweetest Thing." This would have
been a fine greatest hits CD, had they not been out to make new
money with a new song. If it's going to be kept from 1980-1990,
don't include music from 1998. The song just doesn't fit on the
disc and you can tell that just by the change in Bono's voice.
Stick with new music on new albums and helping erase the third
world debt. Apparently the past isn't all they can leave behind.
That aside, if you're looking for the ultimate U2 collection on
disc, I recommend either burning your own custom one, or paying
some money and getting this one.

Google Finance
I've become a big advocate of Google. I think they truly have managed to break the hold of Microsoft and if anything, have also demonstrated the sheer power of the cliched Web 2.0. This finance site is no small potatoes either. The graphs are so simple yet so lush in data, and the rest of the pages are no different. Perhaps the most appealing feature is the portfolio which, with a Google account, lets you enter in how many shares of a stock you own and track all of its vitals in one page. I entered in my 401k breakdown and at any given time, it lets me visualise my account better than my 401k planner does.
Gastroenteritis
The stomach flu got me at the end of the year, making for the worst sickness I've felt in probably 10-15 years. Every hour, I was either on or over the toilet and at times, had to keep a bag next to the bed for those times I couldn't make it to the toilet fast enough. From what I've heard, I wasn't the only one to catch this horrible disaster in the past 2-3 weeks. I was supposed to go to Andrew's for the opening of the 7 year old time capsule and video but the stomach flu sidelined my plans (I'm finally at about 85% recovery) and for that, you are the asshole of the week.
