28/01/03- Welcome...
just hangin around...

26/01/03(120am)- a&e feature story on britpop. by spencer ross. oh happy days are here again. just some lsat stuff and classes today. went to morcheeba show last night. was on the press list, so i didnt have to pay and it was sold out. really good show, i was pleasantly surprised. review due in by friday. also going to interview nicks band for a story on emergenza. plus ive got more lsat shit. that test sucks. didnt see superbowl. didnt care this time. dont get the commercials here and american football sucks. registered for the chicoutimi course. package should be in the mail.
im going to a post- state of the empire thing on cbc radio wednesday am. its on from 730-930am and its like a town hall analysis. they say its all over canada and 200 us radio stations but i cant find frequencies for them. you can listen in online, or if you're uncle kc, check out cbc.ca/radioguide. and tell dad what frequency he can listen to. or radio-canada international. i cant figure out where the frequencies are located. anyways, brynens giving us participation points for going to be part of the audience and ask questions. cool.
not much else doing otherwise. found a book of arobtth tabs. cool. very chillsville yo. im heading to bed. 29 more days.
26/01/03(1245pm)-i am so happy. its that cloud nine thing. this time its for sure. mainly this week has consisted of lsats and classes again, not much doing in any of those. started reading the peacebuilding field guide so ill be ready on that for the simulation. plus theres the french book im reading for quebec history. oh man speaking of french, we saw seraphin, un homme et son péche. it was supposed to be really good, and it starred the gérard depardieu of quebec, roy dupuis... it sucked. it was like les miz meets romeo and juliet set in 18th century quebec. only crappier. friday afternoon, went to see narc with jessica also. ok so this is working backwards here... narc was pretty good. im not a cop/crime/mystery/detective drama person, i find them boring and whatnot. but this one was pretty good, good acting and very dark. back yet another day to thursday, got a haircut with my buddy mathilde. shes a laugh riot. so we were talking about my trip next month and the woman is hysterical. but also a good listener. although she interrupts a lot ;-p wednesday, cant remember what happened. or tuesday. or monday. but i know there was no 24 this week because of that fucking american idol. worst thing is, they're doing a canadian idol up here soon. what the hell is wrong with them? i hate reality tv. it can suck my balls. oh, new lewis black cd. hillarious. what else what else... new hootie album march 4. new 3eb album march 4. wow. thats gonna make for the best week ever. super bowl is on tonight but i dunno whats doing with that. they dont show american commercials so that doesnt matter too much then. plus i might have tix through the trib to see the sold out morcheeba show later. whatever the case, got work to do before the game and theres a habs-hawks game on here at 2pm, so i might watch that? short entry today, had stuff today but procrastinated writing because of talking. maybe next weeK?
So take me don't leave me
Take me don't leave me
Baby, love will come through it's just waiting for you

20/01/03(915am)-so robert and rich left about 1/2 hr ago and its back to status quo except not. i had the shortest phone conversation ive ever had with my parents last night in that time, they're now letting me fly back to ct feb 26 so i can see coldplay with jen the next night. two coldplay concerts, maybe an interview with the band, and getting to see my girl all in the same week. wow. im feeling real good right about now. 37 more days...
19/01/03(300pm)-well, i wasnt content with letting the cheney show being my last one with trav and kurt. so wednesday night, i ended up checking the rane schedule, there was a show in glenville ny and so i said, for shits and giggles, whats it gonna take to see the closest show to montreal on the rane tour in the next 2 months. so thursday afternoon i called up david and tried rounding up other people to go to the show including jen and then friday morning rented a car from rent-a-wreck. course the bumblefucks downtown screwed my order so i ended up having to go off the island to chateauguay to get the friggin car. a nice cab ride right during rush hour. got to chateauguay, picked up the car, drove back downtown, picked up david and my passport and we hit the road. 3 1/2 hr car ride down to glenville ny and we finally got there. as always, smooth drive through upstate and no line at customs. so the place they were playing was called the g-spot. the g-spot was located in a fairly remote location in the middle of nowhere. somewhat hard to find. so was the club (*drumroll*). the guys played a pretty solid set in front of not many people, which was a disappointment only because i like seeing people at rane shows. nonetheless, the times when the audience is small is when the guys tend to play most solidly, or atleast most loosely and digging in the dirt was definitely the kicker of the night.
somehow i just pictured rane without trav and kurt the entire night but it was pretty hard. even david agreed that it will be a tough replacement. im hopeful for the guys but looking at that stage and knowing this time that it would be my last hurrah for the two guys... made the night all the more chilling. by the end of the night, i think my emotions were a little bit on the fritz and its definitely going to be an adjustment. so speaking of emotions on the fritz, its been an extremely long day with 8 hrs of driving, i should pack it in. trav and kurt, its been a great 7 years and im glad i got to see the show, make sure to keep us posted of your further adventures. best of luck mes amis...
hung out with the band for a bit after the show and then david and i headed straight back to montreal, got in around 5am and crashed. now, going back a little bit. not much has been going on here except for classes (which ive really been enjoying this semester) and lsat work. seths friends rob and rich came up on thursday night so we've been chilling with them. last night we went to the habs-leafs game. they fired michel therrien's dumb ass on friday morning. so its been really good because ive been saying the last 2 years that therrien has done nothing for the team. he wasnt the reason for montreal making the playoffs, theodore was. anyways, the new guy, claude julien, was our ahl affiliate's coach and his record this season has been 33-6. well, he lost his first game in the nhl, but it was a pretty good game. i think its the first time this season ive seen us outshoot a team. we lost in OT, 3-2, which was still good cause we were down 2-0 with 7 seconds left in the second and we got the OT loss point. the sellout crowd was awesome and habs-leafs games are electric. we sat in the ex zone and i think it was one of the most fun games ive been to here. i decided to go nuts so i yelled til my voice was hoarse and i got 2 free beer tix and bought 2 more so i walked away from the game fairly buzzed and it was just really great.
afterwards, i decided to lay low here, rather than go to katherines party since i hadnt been home since thursday but to sleep. so instead, i just watched some snl and talked to jen for a while, first online, then on the phone til 330am and went to sleep. its weird how things work out, but i dont think ive ever felt as good as now. although now i need to see if i can go back to ct following the coldplay concert here so i can go to the coldplay concert in ct. which in itself is weird, because in 3 years, i dont theres anything thats made me want to go back to ct as much as i do now. *sigh* anyways, i should do some lsat work now so i can go to peel tonight and then i dunno. tomorrow is laundry day. and classes. and lsat classes. but right now i just want to talk to jen so im gonna do some lsat...

Oh, how I wish I didn't have to say this from Canada. It's so sad that Cheney was my last show with Kurt and Trav.
When I first saw rane, it was at a Starbucks back in 1997. At the time, there were six members in the band. By the next time I saw them, Greg had left but I hadn't known the band well enough to be affected by it. My first show, I knew they'd become big, but I never thought it would be this big. In fact, I'd never heard of most of the venues they're playing until they made it there. It's now five and half years later and not only have I gotten to go to many of their shows, but I've gotten to know the guys personally. It's given me a sense of what goes into the musical process and inspired me not only to head down my personal career path, but to improve upon my own musical abilities.
Behind all that, formed a small-knit community of fans like us that have, show by show, come together to celebrate the music they make. In 1999, the onelist listserv gave all of us a common forum on the internet to get to know other rane fans. Whether it was showdates, setlists, lyrics, or random comments, a true fanbase was created there and we got to share our love for the guys' music. As time has gone by, we've watched this community grow larger (and younger) and fill concert halls to watch the music. For some of us, being a fan was not sufficient enough, and the band became an entrenched part of our lives. We've grown up with these five guys and have watched their success with awe from the sidelines. For all of us, this news comes with complete sadness.
Back in the sixties, a group of four guys started playing local clubs in Liverpool, England. Eventually the original drummer of that band left and the three remaining members formed one of the most influential bands in rock history. However, the underlying history does not forget the origins of that band. Rest assured, the departure of Travis and Kurt will be sorely missed by all of us, particularly those who have gotten to know the band on a more intimate level. Their percussion battery was the tour de force of rane and songs like Goomba, Gemini, or Hazelnut will never be the same.
But from the dawn of spring grows new light and new opportunities. Trav and Kurt won't disappear from the annals of rane, but will be important figures in where the future of rane takes us all; important figures in "where we come from." It will never be the same, but from the sadness comes the sun. Hopefully the future will be good for them all. Best of luck to Trav and Kurt and much future success. Here's to a new chapter in the history of rane...

14/01/03(1015pm)-never the same... thesoundofrane.com. :'(
(1250am)-two things: new mcgill tribune article. and new survey.
13/01/03(1045pm)-not much to talk about. friday turned out to be pretty cool. im liking my quebec history class immensely. i like the prof. his lectures are simple, mainly cause he's a francophone, so the lectures are on index cards in outline form, so its easier to take notes. and plus theres some nice girls in the class. :-P peacebuilding went okay and im happy about the simulation. went to lunch and then to french for groupwork. coffee with jessica afterwards and that was it.
saturday, did work during most of the day. read up for quebec history. went out saturday night. i owed jessica. so we went to le living. it makes no sense, i like clubs, i like dancing, i dont like dancing at clubs. so it was me, elise, jessica, miriam, and alex and the girls spent all night finding me a girl, and i just wasnt forcing the issue. anyways, it was alright, came back around 330, fell asleep til about 130 yesterday. woke up with a headache and pounding bass from amanda's techno music. so basically i got out, did food shopping in record 20 minutes before delivery deadline, and then went to café depot to do some reading. came home for dinner/simpsons, and fell asleep reading about faults of the un security council/general assembly for peacebuilding. im so excited for that class. got an email from the president of brynania. he's in the 650 class (the grad class with the seminar component). so im glad i gave myself the challenge of foreign minister because its forcing me to do all the readings because theres no way i want to look like a complete fool in the simulation.
today was quebec history, then peacebuilding, then lunch with david, then french presentation. then went to al van houtte with jessica for coffee. called elise, she talked to jessica a bit, and then i headed to the trib office. we're in a lull with stories right now, so im gonna do a "tell me about.... britpop" sort of article in the theme of a series we're running about different genres. we're also doing one next week about jambands. speaking of jambands, major rane announcement coming up. anyways, after meeting with scott on my article for next week (grammy picks should be in tomorrows issue), i headed to do some more lsat work before heading to class from 6-9. that was it basically for today. been jamming out on the keyboard some and thats about it. jessi came back from florida today, so im happy to be able to talk to her again. she wants me to write something romantic about her on my website, but i dont think i can do that ;-) anyways. its a somber day tomorrow and some work tonight/tomorrow also. so thats it for now. more later...
10/01/03(1150pm)-i think next week im gonna go to CAPS. im starting to think of wanting to intern here during the summer, and the only jobs i can do are through the school. i look at it this way- im not gonna be in the states til june and im gonna be paying rent over the summer, so why not just take advantage of my last summer and work here. besides, maybe some foreign work might look good on a resume? anyways. not much going on today- solid quebec history class, peacebuilding class, and boring french class. came home, took a nap, been reading on and off. postponing skiing tomorrow to do some work. thats really about it. w00t.
09/01/03(1030pm)-lots of news, no time to report. sorta. busy busy. suffice to say, in our peacebuilding simulation, im now foreign minister of brynania. anyways, i wrote up my grammy picks for this year. hopefully the page works right. i was formatting and reformatting and rereformatting. oh, lesson learned today, when buying undergarments, spend the 2$ more for 100% cotton over 50-50 blend. i tried these other boxer briefs- they work horribly. so i went back and bought hanes. plus hanes feels better. actually now that i think about it, theres not much to report. just classes, lsat classes, lsat work, reading. im soooo psyched about the simulation even though its not til 2 months from now, so im heavily gearing reading for it so i can be an ass kicking foreign minister. other than that, *shrug* dunno what else to say right now. heavy habs news with savard and therrien disputing kerry frasers inconsistent reffing. 75,000$ worth of fineage. habs weekly ratings has yet to be updated- gotta get back in the swing of the season. thats about it for now.
07/01/03(1030pm)-change in course scheduling. i dropped security and im taking brynens peacebuilding instead. which is what i thought i was in but was in security instead. so maybe ill take security next year? but peacebuilding has this weeklong simulation and im looking forward to that immensely, which is why i originally wanted to do it. plus it means my tues/thurs is a little freed up. so revised schedule is...

im working on my grammy picks. maybe tomorrow...
(1000am)-i lied. grammy nominations were out this morning (when, i dont know, its only 10am). so expect full preview of that later today after my bazillion hours of classes. coldplay only nominated for 2 awards. what a rip. that shoulda been album of the year. i mean eminem is okay, but their album was so much better. anyways. springsteens gonna win all his awards. ill get to that later- theres 54 pages of nominees for me to sift through :-p anyways, im gonna get ready for class and whatnot. more later...
(1215am)-*sigh* long day. ok so yesterday i did some reading and some napping, then woke up to jessica calling me. so we ended up going for some phat se-ew at thai express. i love phat se-ew. talked a lot, watched some tube, watched jay and silent bob (for my millionteenth time) and then i think i pretty much bummed a bit and crashed. this morning, i woke up around 11. been tired and sorta getting sick? im starting to think my cold/asthma stuff is stress related because the lsat on the back burner with classes has started to get me feeling crappy although i havent started coughing yet. anyways. woke up today around 11. was supposed to be in contemporary political theory. but i wasnt gonna take that course anyways. so i went on minerva and luck be a lady, history of québec was freed. so i immediately registered. go figured, that was a 1030 class. but i didnt know. so ill get the syllabus on wed. then bummed til french and that was a fairly wasted class period- just to find out about how im doing so far. but in the meantime im somewhat apathetic about that class now that im registered in chicoutimi. i mean im not appathetic about grades, but im apathetic just about roch i suppose since im doing immersion anyways. um yeah. so then jessica and i went to lunch, talked a bit more, i went to meet david at the bookstore to pick up most of my texts, then went to the trib office, went to do some lsat hw, and then went to my lsat course. 3 hours in a room doing logic puzzles. fun is eh? came home, was pooped, thats been about it. doing some reading for tomorrows courses. thats about it. cd review published in the tribune from last month. should be getting back on track soon and need to also call EMI. i called today but i was on hold 10 minutes that i didnt really have. maybe tomorrow morning first thing. grammy picks coming out in about a week. reading to do, stuff to see, people to screw? oh wait...nix the last one, ive got this itch called the lsats for the next month :-/ we'll see about that...
so heres my winter schedule 2003:
HIST 303 History of Quebec MWF 1030-1130
FRSL 321 Oral and Written French II MWF 1330-1430
HIST 202 Canada: Survey From 1867 TR 1130-1300
MUAR 392 Popular Music Since 1945 TR 1430-1600
POLI 360 International Security: Strategies of War and Peace TR 1600-1730
05/01/03(100pm)-long time no write? my throat hurts right now. i hope its not a sign of my cough coming back? ive been doing rather well on that this year. anyways, backing up a bit. so new years eve was so so. definitely not a pickup night. so seth and i split a pitcher, they were showing canadian juniors hockey tournament on tv and so we didnt even see the countdown. oh well, is it that big a deal to watch the ball drop? came home, tried calling jessi and passed out.
woke up at a somewhat decent hour new years day. i dont think i left the apartment though. wait, we decided to go out for dinner, but there wasnt anyplace that was decent priced, so we went to this thai place. that was that. thursday, i decided to make a shopping day. only apparently in québec, the day after new years day is an unofficial holiday. so all stores on ste. catherine were closed except chapters and indigo. even the underground was pretty much closed. and yet i spent 4 hours down there. only bought a humour book called "how to be a canadian." its funny cause its true. all of it. retook the practice citizenship test online, scored an 86%. but seriously though who cares what 4 minerals are mined from the canadian shield? oh well. had a weird dream last night. weird weird. it was like indiana jones meets lotr, meets a police movie. weird. so i spent 4 hours on ste. catherine, came back. went to subway with the guys for dinner, then watched the habs canucks game with nick. i cant remember what else i did on thursday night.
that made friday shopping day. i went to maison sony to get my discman (to replace the stolen one from november), then tripped to hmv to replace my badly drawn boy cd that was stolen in november. so i spent most of the day doing that. cant remember what else i did. not much because of yesterday, which was lsat course day. so i went to my lsat diagnostic test at 930am. scored 154 never having looked at it before. now thinking of changing my test date to february since thats the one this course is gearing up for. median is 149. so im above average. cool. anyways. came home from that, did some reading in my book and then took a nap. lauren called and so she ended up coming over. not much else happened during the day. so we hung out here a bit, then went to else's, had a bottle of wine. came back here, both ended up passing out on the couch. somewhere during the night she left? and somehow i woke up in my bed? and that's where we're at. i dunno whats doing today. gotta straighten out course stuff- i hate add drop because its a waiting game to get into classes. so im waiting on 2 classes: minerva to put me through canadian history 1914-1945, and then waiting for a drop out in a polisci class. gotta work on lsat homework for tomorrow. i thought lauren talked about going to musée des beaux arts to see a gaugin exhibit? i dunno, maybe ill just work on my lsat stuff in the meantime.
02/01/03(1200pm)-its -10 out. ew. but.... got a response to my email from last month and i now have coldplay's EMI contact here in montreal :-D i cant get that smiley to be a bigger grin, i just hope that they'll book me an interview, i will shit my pants. an interview with coldplay would make this hellmonth and almost the missing new orleans fact a little more tolerable :-D YOWZA!!!
01/01/03(330pm)- heres a log entry i wrote in the airport yesterday. also as promised, the new year brings change to the font colour on this site. from herein, things added onto the site will be published in white. theres too many pages for me to recode all the font colours, so this takes place non ex post facto. happy new year.
alright so now im sitting at gate B14 in bradley international airport waiting for my flight. its not been delayed from 550 to 620. doesnt make me happy because the only thing miserable with the weather is the fog. but...there no vending machine or anything down here, and no newspaper stand, so no nytimes. blows goats. *shrug* anyways, not too much happened in the last couple of days other than financial conversations with the rents, which was pretty much straightened out for this semester. sunday i didnt do much other than we went down to meet fran and dave at pepes. mmm...and libbys... mmm... anyways. yesterday i went to work and all that shit. its been fun working there this week. made the 2 weeks go by fast, i made a couple extra dollars, and ive had more fun working there this week than the summer. maybe the fact that i was working on vacation with them made me somewhat relaxed, unlike in the summer.
anyways, after work, went to get my suit altered although antoinette said that 3-button was in style so ther went that suit. oh well :) so went home, had leftovers for dinner and all that jazz. after dinner was the money conversation and then went to andrews house. almost everyone was there, so i got to see a lot of people whom i didnt see at all yet. as rane sings, "and our time together slowly fades away..." but it was nice to play some catchup i guess, even though mark mccarthy being in jail's got nothing to do with my life so? so today i woke up late, started a wash and then went to the bank one last time, came back, elise came home from the airport, then we went back out to take me and voila.
airport security...weeoo. so now im waiting for my flight because i need to get back so i know what tonights new years plans are. im thinking angels or publix? or maybe st. sulpice? no clue yet. but im really looking forward. then maybe thurs or friday, ill day trip out to the laurentians or eastern townships for a day to ski before my hell month. yeah. i havent skiied in 2 years and i envision a lot of work this semester so...
i again, dont feel much like typing anymore right now? so maybe ill do my brief year in review bit tomorrow. so. signing back off from hartford...
