Jon and Eric In Montreal
15-18 March 2002
and
The Return of Saku Koivu- 9 April 2002
all pictures are scanned from the originals
Captions (starting from beginning of slideshow)
1. Jon tried some authentic poutine at La Belle Province. Not so bad, eh Jon?
2. St. Paddy's Day in Montréal! The harp on the giant inflated pint of Guinness outside of McKibbins.
3. Jon and Eric relaxing with a pint of Guinness at McKibbins, where we decided to celebrate St. Paddy's Day.
4. Jon and Eric drinking their Guinnesses and realising they shoulda followed my lead with a Black Velvet instead :).
5. Debbie took this photo of all of us at McKibbins while we're waiting for the next music set- Jon, Me, Eric, David, and Nick.
6. The band that was playing at McKibbins. I can't remember their name but they were good and it was a good time for all. Dance away! Slainte!.
7. Show some Canadian spirit!
8. Since it never shows up on the webcam, I figured to put it on and get a pic.
9. 9 April 2002- Ottawa Senators @ Montréal Canadiens- A game that will live on in Montréal Canadian history- Team captain Saku Koivu returned after a 7 month battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. It's currently in remission. Go Saku! In addition, the Habs were to clinch a playoff berth for the first time in 4 years- the longest drought in their history. This is during warmups- Dykhuis, Asham, Zednik, Koivu, Van Allen, unidentified, Lindsey.
10. Boooooooooooo Ottawa!
11. Too many names to list, but roughly in the centre of the picture is the hero of the night, the hero of the season, Saku Koivu (#11).
12. Starting goalies square off down centre ice- our MVP, José Théodore (left) and the sucky Ottawa goalie, Patrick Lalime (right).
13. Thé-o. Théeee-o! Boom boom boom, a lemme hear you say Thé-o, (Thé-o!) Thanks for bringing us to the playoffs!
14. Stéphane Robidas heads for a warmup shot while Bill Lindsay and Shaun Van Allen skate.
15. Koivu takes his warmup shot on Théodore while Petrov (14) skates in.
16. Back to the nosebleeds to watch the last skate arounds. At this point, the crowd is surging with energy.
17. More skating before the lineup is announced. On the scoreboard is a shot inside the locker room.
18. Ladies and gentleman, Saku Koivu! [Then an 8 minute standing ovation, cutting off the announcer 3 times from doing the national anthem].
19. Some of the other lines are already out on the ice and we're waiting for more of the starters...
21. I missed it, but Saku skated over and gave Théodore a hug and a "headbutt." What a captain....
20. Koivu (second from left) sports his bald head from the chemo, while the crowd shows their appreciation.
22. Koivu raised his stick in appreciation for the ovation. (The man's hand is purposefully in the picture).
23. The national anthem is drowned out with continuous applause for Koivu, who was anxious for the faceoff.
24. Koivu takes the opening faceoff, even though he only played 8 minutes in the game. Whatever, it was history and he beat the odds.
25. The scoreboard after the third goal of the game, by Richard Zednick. At that point the score was 3-0 and even though we only won 4-3, we went to the playoffs and never looked back...
more pictures to come....

Google Finance
I've become a big advocate of Google. I think they truly have managed to break the hold of Microsoft and if anything, have also demonstrated the sheer power of the cliched Web 2.0. This finance site is no small potatoes either. The graphs are so simple yet so lush in data, and the rest of the pages are no different. Perhaps the most appealing feature is the portfolio which, with a Google account, lets you enter in how many shares of a stock you own and track all of its vitals in one page. I entered in my 401k breakdown and at any given time, it lets me visualise my account better than my 401k planner does.
Gastroenteritis
The stomach flu got me at the end of the year, making for the worst sickness I've felt in probably 10-15 years. Every hour, I was either on or over the toilet and at times, had to keep a bag next to the bed for those times I couldn't make it to the toilet fast enough. From what I've heard, I wasn't the only one to catch this horrible disaster in the past 2-3 weeks. I was supposed to go to Andrew's for the opening of the 7 year old time capsule and video but the stomach flu sidelined my plans (I'm finally at about 85% recovery) and for that, you are the asshole of the week.
