30/07/04(340am)- i have to say, john kerry gave a helluva speech tonight. extremely surprised. im watching the reruns that cnn shows starting at 1am cause i went out tonight with lisa from the trib. the platform definitely sounds stronger than it was before, i just wish they'd been talking about it beforehand, and hopefully they can get a boost out of it. all the speeches were decent though. clinton was good, obama was good, edwards was slightly flakey, and kerry was good. not sure i like his middle class tax cuts though. those 300$ cheques do zero for anyone. not that i dont like 300$, but in the scheme of things, it does nothing for me and id rather put it back into education, into health care, into social security. one of the benefits of taxation is that youre supposed to get services in return for it. people bitch about taxes, but americans have low tax rates, high deficits, and no services. and privatization of everything has just led to corporatisation of everything. its the american corporation. and like they say, no other administration has had more ceos in it than this one. im a little worried however, about some of the hokey slogans of the campaign. "help is on the way" "kerry edwards, the real deal" "a stronger america begins at home." i dunno, they kinda seem undemocratic and too populist for the party's good. but alas, we finally officially have a democratic presidential ticket. weird though, in typical tucker carlson fashion, he rated the different parts of the speech b+,a,b+ and then gave it overall a c-. that makes zero sense. that snippy bowtied kid should go to some place off the azores or something. cate edwards is a spicy little number. princeton grad you say....
went to eat with lisa at el taco del tabarnaco. not bad at all. went out to hurleys the other night with dany and andrea. was pretty fun. then last night got onion rings at veranda with mark-alex. no class this past monday and wednesdays class was boring. i just downloaded this album called true love waits: o'riley plays radiohead. its fantastic. its classical piano renditions of 15 radiohead songs and its stunning because he apparently deconstructed the songs and then reconstructed them with his version.
talk about a smear campaign. i mean i still am reluctant having kerry as the presidential candidate when he hasnt even talked about his record in politics over the last 30 years. but the politics arent personal....
well its 4am again and i forgot what else has gone on this week other than moving into laurens room and waiting for the subletters on sunday. and then the schoolwork ive gotta do. les francofolies this weekend, etc. there was something else i had to say but i forgot. i should get valerian root or something because theres got to be a way that i can fall asleep at a normal time so i can get my schedule back on track. oh oh, i remember what it was. moses mayes got back to me and grant's gotta talk to the other guys, but he likes what i presented them with and it could be possible they'd want me as tour manager. and then there's the position at paquin which i'll still end up applying to, just in case. the end.

25/07/04(420am)- still on this miserable sleep schedule. tired but not really right now. this past week's been going pretty well. hassle with the kid moving into my room. hes a real extorter and swindler but hes not got me and its annoying the hell out of him. saw the bourne supremacy. as good as the first one. its definitely the new james bond franchise (even if its only a trilogy). saw basile the comedian, funny show, though he incorporated a lot of greek so i didnt get everything. had a french test that went alright but just tedious.
p.s., has anyone besides me noticed that george w bush is always looking forward to things? swear to god, everytime i see him at a press conference, or campaign stop or whatever, its "im looking forward to seeing the 9/11 report" "im looking forward to john edwards campaigning" "im looking forward to seeing what the congress passes in its budget" "im looking forward to meeting with the president chirac" "im looking forward to seeing trade progress with the romanian government"... i wish i could make it up but george w bush looks forward to a lot of things. its the most effective way ive ever seen to excuse future incompetancy.
and on one more point that david made about a week ago, what qualified tom ridge for the position of secretary of department of homeland security. stomach feeling a little goofy right now, waiting to hear back from moses mayes. position open at paquin gonna apply for. going to lay down on couch.

19/07/04(100am)- happy 22nd birthday baby! (older than me ;-D)
my results from the "Are You a Proper Radiohead Fan?" quiz:
Healthily obsessed
Dance you fucker! Don't you dare! You scored 82%!
You know all/most of the lyrics. You've been to some concerts. You own all or most of their albums. Perhaps you even buy them on the day of release. You are obsessed, but healthily so. You try putting people on to Radiohead (with mixed succes), and have from time to time been told to shut up about fucking "Paranoid Android" being the '90s "Bohemian Rhapsody". Fret not. You're in good company. Thank God for Radiohead, good headphones and good weed.

13/07/04(1145am)- well, the good news is, my hard drive is fixed. not only is it fixed, but they sent a 40gb drive instead of my old 20gb drive. so thats excellent in terms of space. now my only problem is that the amount of memory i have is disproportionate to the rest of my system's specs. so ive spent quite a bit of time reinstalling windows, migrating old files and downloading new files. the only thing thats really weird is that the internet works in the house.... except that i cant use a router. its really bizarre. we tried both routers and neither of them are working right. and yet i was wireless at second cup the other night and it worked fine. no idea whatsoever.
lemme see where i left off (man it feels so good to be writing in wordpad again instead of the little net2ftp box). i cant even remember what happened friday but saturday i ended up being shut in for most of the day. plus the weather was crappy overcast and rained at one point during the day. round 730, david and i went to bellepros and then to the jazzfest to see moses mayes. last time i saw them was when they were last here at le swimming 2 years ago. following a breakup, they just came out with a new album. anyways, they played an 8pm set and everyone was dancing. david left during the set and then afterwards, i interviewed paul the bassist and antin the drummer. it was pretty good and they gave some interesting responses to the "standard questions." following that, i met up with danny chodos and his new roommate adi and we watched their 10pm set. again, everyone was dancing and it was packed (last [sat.] night of the festivals). their music is like acid jazz/house/funk/groove fusion. really infectious to dance to. soooo many old people even, one woman who was going nuts in the first set and came back for the second set went up to them after the show and said "im 63 and i havent danced like that since i was 35." and then the old man who was going mick jagger-style and the other old man with the umbrella who was shaking it. lots of fun. afterwards brought danny and adi to meet them and so it ended up that we were all gonna go back to their hotel room and party. so i called david and he brought nadim and mustapha and musty's friend tony and we all went to the hotel and basically had a grand old time til about 3 or so.
sunday morning i attempted to sleep in late and then woke up and cleaned the entire house again, top to bottom. made the kitchen sink nice, cleaned the bathrooms, swept the house, etc. around 4ish, lauren and her friends noelle jake and jill came up. with my printer/fax, my hard drive, the new sandals (thanks mom), and some food to eat. i spent most of the evening working on my computer and went to second cup and then depot til late cause i just couldnt fall asleep. and yesterday i woke up early to my mom calling. so most of yesterday was spent home waiting for phone calls until i finally got to class at 630. that was about it. class was kinda boring the but book im doing is kinda not bad. and then i came home, we had enchiladas for dinner and that was pretty much it. on tap for today: interviewing basile the comedian for the trib for the just for laughs festival. should be interesting. never interviewed a comedian before. one week til andrea comes back.....time to shower.

09/07/04(430pm)- due to the praise i heard from anton and from margaret's website, and in light of ken lay's indictment yesterday, i ended up deciding to see the corporation. it was a good movie (you could tell it was made by canadians and partially filmed here), but i think it took out some of the business aspect of corporations in terms of how theyve affected people in developed areas as opposed to the environment and those in developing areas. for instance, they start off talking about the bad apples of the corporate scandals, but they neglect to mention the impact corporate scandal has on the world economy. they could have further helped their point along by saying that too often, the corporate world and developed governments feel that their hands are tied when it comes to regulating commerce (see: harpers, june 1887 for more details on corporate growth - there was a more recent harpers article on this as well in the july 2004 issue). i felt the movie neglected to mention that if you took corporations out of the picture, there would also be a huge discrepancy in the economic sphere. not only would there be an economic discrepancy, but products that we use on a daily basis that have improved our lives are dependent on these corporations. for instance, if microsoft was abandoned, odds are, most of us would have to either get a mac (see: apple corporation) or another pc (see: hp, compaq, sony, toshiba, et al...) and run linux on it. the corporation also barely mentioned free trade agreements and their impacts, minimally delving into the GATT and 2001s summit of the americas. anyways, thats what i have to say on that. for a 2 1/2 hr documentary, they touched on a lot of things that could have been better developed.
less than 48 hours left without a computer. tomorrow night: moses mayes. tonight: reading at depoT?

08/07/04(610pm)- my sandals broke, im not happy. luckily the new ones are coming with the hard drive on sunday. unfortunately, that means im still computerless and the likes until then. its quite boring to live by yourself when you dont have something occupying you 40 hrs a week and you dont have a computer. and your sandals are broke. and you need to rotate your rollerblade wheels but you cant find any wd-40. and thus, i did a new survey. i feel like i should go see a movie or something so that way i can have done something? maybe either saved or the corporation. i hear they're both excellent movies. *sigh* i need visitors :-/

07/07/04(320pm)- cant say im not surprised, but i wish john mccain was kerrys running mate instead of edwards. however ill just bring up this point: republicans will try to say that kerry and edwards are on opposing sides on various issues, even though they're still democrats. frankly, thats the smartest thing anyones said yet. the president/vp are supposed to be on the same page about things, but nobody said they have to agree about things. in fact, thats what this bush administration completely lacks is any form of dissent amongst the top officials. to question why unilateral decisions are made is to look at the fact that the cabinet is of all like-minded, like-interested individuals who don't disagree with each other. sorry, i stand corrected. point the odd man out. thats right, colin powell. and look what theyve done with him; they've turned him into the career-suicide patsy of the administration, keeping his post in the dark about everything thats necessary when it comes to foreign policy. the moral of the story: kerrys and edwards differences should make them all the more potent, not all the more weaker. anyone who thinks differently is just talking out their ass.
as for the last couple of days, not much has been going on here. went out for david's 22nd birthday at l'academie last night. then watched boondock saints at danis. good movie, i was pleasantly surprised. class was okay but i need to get books still, but the prof needs to tell us which books we're actually gonna want to choose from from the list :-S new hard drive is supposed to come up this weekend, maybe then i can not have to come to campus/icafes. my sandals are supposed to come up too. im looking around the net and im starting to think that rockport doesnt make that model anymore. im hungry, whats for lunch?

04/07/04(835pm)- the city's painted with blues and whites. greece, against 80-1 odds, won the euro cup, so now the city's greek community is all aflood with celebrations. meaning, theres lots of honking around the greek restaurants. being sick sucks still, i dunno why this cold is taking so long for me to get over but my throat's back to being sore again :-/ anyways
yesterday i went to multimags to get a gazette so i could look at the classifieds. unfortunately it was kinda slim, which is weird cause usually saturdays is when the gazette has its jobs bonus. anyways, i was on my way out of multimags when i ran into katie and james, so we went to lunch at eurodeli. which was cool because its nice to run into people in the summer. being in the apartment by myself has been kinda lonely, so ive kinda just been trying to stay out of it. in fact, ive been sleeping on the couch more than on my bed because for some reason, being near the kitchen makes me feel less lonely than being in my room. i even thought about bringing down my instruments to keep me company. anyways, after that, i headed over to depot and andrea met me there, and we talked before she had to catch her train. all ive gotta say is it was an odd weekend and kinda up and down. and that was that. somewhere along the line, i ended up getting together with dany and we went to the fireworks at the old port (not canada day ones and not as good, but good nonetheless. apparently theres fireworks like everyday at the oldport for the next few days). so from there we went to david and nadims, where prashant was up from boston for the 4th of july weekend. and that was about it. i ended up sleeping today away because i was so wiped, though i dont know how i got feeling worse, but i think im gonna go get some food now or something. maybe after that, go to depot, read todays nytimes, read my book and then pretend like im gonna fall asleep at 1am when i really dont fall asleep til 4am because my sleep schedule and my sleep patterns have been weird the last two weeks. tomorrow i gotta call my parents and then theres class again and all that jazz. and as for whats going on with the rest of life.... well i could speculate, but that would only be speculation i guess. besides, no one online wants to talk to me now, so i might as well save some of the time on this card for later....

03/07/04(1240am)- im at the battlenet.24 internet cafe because of my screwy computer stuff. dad wont get the hard drive to me til lauren comes up on the 11th. and then i still have to reupload data files and whatnot. *sigh* ive got 54 minutes left on the hour card i got. so andreas up here and the first night went okay, met her at the train station, went to dinner at pratos. second day she had an interview so i went to meet david and rachel for lunch. then in the evening we all went to the old port for canada day celebrations with nadim also, and went to see some of the bands like hawksley workman and kevin parent. finally, it was around 11:30 and the fireworks started going off. i have to say, it was the best fireworks display ive ever seen. better than any ive been to in connecticut. went back home after that, got up sorta late this am, went to breakfast with andrea at beautys. after that i dunno what happened, but it was starting to go downhill from there i guess. went home, and that was basically today. andrea leaves tomorrow (today) at 330 in the afternoon. then we might go to jazzfest later in the evening. i was supposed to go this evening cause i guess prashant's in town also. but i decided to stay home and chill. except that i started getting stir crazy so here i am. to top it off, ive checked my email and i dont know what other sites i want to go on. i guess then maybe ill do the xword and wrap up here in case i need to come back ill still have some spare time on my card. this is more of a rambly post because im frazzled and confused this evening because of events in the past couple days and also, i feel like im drunk or stoned, but ive had nothing of the sorts this evening. i had cough syrup at like 9, but that was 4 hours ago so i dunno why i feel this airy in the head but..... i stop now.
