Rane MP3 of the
Week
Originally, the mp3 of the
week section was a review of one mp3 each week. Mp3s ranged from genres
such as african beats to celtic bagpipes, mainstream rock, to french
house. Instead though, I'm using it as a forum for making rane bootleg mp3s available for download. While rane continues to put live mp3s on their official bootleg site, projectflood.com, I'm using this space as a means for sharing shows that arent official rane releases (and maybe other miscellaneous mp3s on occasion...). So- enjoy music.
week of 19/01/03- from 9.27.02 bentley college show, its a live version of "new england song" .
week of 7/8/02-im trying to revive my mp3 site as a rane mp3 of the week site. im going to try to put up a new live rane bootleg each week on this page. due to constrictions by my host on server space and file upload size, mp3s will be removed when replaced with a new one, and will be a maximum of 10mb (possibly requiring sound quality reduction to fit). anyways. this weeks mp3 is a track from 07/07/02 house of blues show. the track is "from the vine"
NOTE: 31 Jan 2002 ALL MP3s ARE TEMPORARILY DOWN
week of 20/01/01- ok, i had to make room for my own mp3. i wrote a song yesterday called "Block" and here's an mp3 download of it (~6.5MB)
week of 06/01/01- please note, some mp3 links have been removed in order for me to make space on my server so i can upload and delete files in the process of converting this site to php. i will try and repost the rest of the mp3s once the entire site is revamped. in the meantime, i have a brand new rane tune out. the song is called "cat stevens" and this version was taped by sam faraci at the 12.29.01 madison arts barn show. (~16MB)
Week of
31/12/01-Rane - "New England Song" from Penuche's Ale House 10.20.01 (~10.3MB)
Rane - "Sounds of Sleep" from Trinity College 10.03.01 (~7MB)
Rane - "Charging Forward's Blindness" from Skidmore College 09.21.01 (~9.3MB)
Rane - "The Single Color" from Penuche's Ale House 10.20.01 (~7.7MB)
four of the older
newer songs to come out. pretty good songs and bowmans solo during "new
england song" kicks ass. as for the lyrics to "the single color," we're
convinced its a secret that no one is supposed to know.
Week of
04/11/01-Rane - "Broca's Aphasia" from Iron Horse Music Hall 7.27.01
not sure who taped
this (possibly joe reed but i cant confirm that), but it was a rane first-
bringing brocas aphasia to the iron horse. the encore song in a phenomenal
nights performance. arguably one of the best rane songs written (though
rarely played until this year).
Rane - "Somber Retreat" from Trinity College 10.3.01
this one was
recorded by jesse hurlburt from the trinity college show. its the shortest
rane song, clocking in at 3:35 and i like the lyrics, particularly when you feel
alone in the world and need a song like this to relate to.
Rane - "The Gauge" from Skidmore College 9.21.01
Rane - "The Words (You and I)" from Skidmore College
9.21.01
im putting up 2
more rane mp3s from the skidmore college show. these were also recorded by
jesse hurlburt. sound quality is excellent. these are two of
the new rane songs, im missing a copy of somber retreat, but by far some of the
best songs rane has written- the gauge with its slap-bass solo and the words
with its beautiful lyrics and interesting tinge of
eastern melodies. definitely two worth downloading.
Week of
23/10/01- Rane - "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" from Skidmore College
9.21.01 (Tears for Fears cover - 1985) for obvious
reasons, im restarting my mp3 of the week page with a live rane song. this
is a live cover, recorded by jesse hurlburt at skidmore college on 21 sept
2001. this was of a supposed limited 7 week run of this song. i
thought their cover was amazingly close to the original version, especially in
the substitution for 80's synth effects. next to adios pantalones' cover
of soul coughing's "super bon bon," this is one of the best and creative songs
ive heard.
